Our Story

Our Story

Rosie's Home Cookin' is more than a restaurant — it's a mission. Created by Veteran Business Project (VBP), Rosie's is a mission-driven social enterprise structured as an L3C (Low-Profit Limited Liability Company) and a wholly owned subsidiary of VBP, a certified national 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Located at CityGate Centre in Naperville, Illinois, Rosie's exists as a sustainable engine of support for veterans and military spouses pursuing business ownership.

Offering Hope – Saving Lives

VBP's mission is both simple and urgent: offering hope, saving lives.

Veteran suicide is a crisis. When hope is lost, lives are lost — and each loss sends ripples far beyond the individual, affecting an estimated 135 family members and friends, according to Terry Prince, Force Master Chief of Navy Medicine and Director of the Navy Hospital Corps.

VBP's answer is purpose through business ownership. When veterans find meaningful work, leadership and the pride of building something real, hope returns — for them, their families and their communities. Every successful business transition VBP helps complete becomes a signal to others: This is possible for you, too.

Our Co-Founders

Co-Founder Lynn Lowder is a Vietnam Marine and Naperville resident of more than 40 years. At 76, Lynn has proven it's never too late to build something meaningful — he built Rosie's to live out the dream of business ownership he carried for decades.

Co-Founder Dale Eisenberg is a lifelong entrepreneur and community builder committed to giving veterans and military spouses a practical, supported path to ownership — one that creates stability, purpose and pride.

Together, Lynn and Dale created Rosie's to strengthen and sustain the mission of Veteran Business Project.

A Restaurant Built for Impact

As an L3C, Rosie's operates as a professional, revenue-generating business with impact first and profit second. It serves two interconnected purposes:

A hands-on business school. Veterans and military spouses learn in a real-world environment, gaining skills in operations and leadership, customer service and team building, financial management, and the day-to-day realities of running a small business.

A funding engine for VBP. Profits flow back to VBP to support programming and veteran outreach, coaching, mentorship and training, and expansion of vharmony™, VBP's pathway to business ownership.
