Rosie’s Home Cookin’ exists for more than great food, it exists to fuel a mission.
Rosie’s was created by Veteran Business Project (VBP) to be an ongoing, sustainable source of support for veterans and military spouses pursuing business ownership. Located in the Calamos CityGate Center in Naperville, Illinois, Rosie’s is a mission-driven social enterprise structured as an L3C (Low-Profit Limited Liability Company) and a wholly owned subsidiary of VBP, a certified national 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
VBP’s purpose is simple and urgent: Offering Hope – Saving Lives.
While VBP doesn’t claim to have all the answers to stop veteran suicide, we do have an answer we believe is a powerful one: purpose through business ownership. When a veteran finds purpose, through meaningful work, leadership, and the pride of building something real, hope returns. And hope doesn’t just reach one veteran; it reaches their families and the communities around them.
Every successful business transition we help complete and publicize becomes a signal to others: this can be possible for you, too.
The sad reality is that when that last flicker of hope goes out, the world becomes a dark place, and all too often, to stop their pain, veterans take their own lives. And if that wasn’t tragic enough, veteran suicide isn’t just a singular event; “it leaves approximately 135 family members and friends to deal with the devastation of their loss,” according to Terry Prince, Force Master Chief of Navy Medicine, and Director of the Navy Hospital Corps.
Lynn Lowder, Co-Founder, is a Vietnam Marine and has been a Naperville resident for more than 40 years. Lynn’s dream was to someday be in business for himself, and at age 76, he has proven it’s never too late to build something new, meaningful, and mission-driven.
Dale Eisenberg, Co-Founder, is a lifelong entrepreneur and community builder who believes strongly that veterans and military spouses deserve a practical, supported path into ownership, one that creates stability, purpose, and pride.
Together, Lynn and Dale created Rosie’s to strengthen and sustain the mission of Veteran Business Project.
To strengthen and sustain VBP’s mission, Rosie’s Home Cookin’ was created as a new, mission-driven entity specifically to benefit VBP.
As an L3C, Rosie’s can operate like a professional, revenue-producing business while keeping impact first, profit second.
Rosie's serves as a Hands-On Living Business School
where veterans and military spouses learn in a real business environment, developing the skills and confidence needed to run a business:
